What is this site all about?
CanYouEatIt is simply a compilation
of information from various food product manufacturers about
the allergens in their products. Our mission is to make it easier for
you to select a safe variety of foods to accommodate all of you
or your loved one's food allergies and preferences. We know how difficult it is for individuals who suffer from multiple food allergies to maintain a healthy diverse diet, so CanYouEatIt focuses on foods that are available in any grocery store, rather than specialty items that tend to be expensive and difficult to find. However, because we recognize the important service that specialty food manufacturers provide, we also feature certain products manufactured just for individuals with food allergies.
Is the information on CanYouEatIt guaranteed to be accurate?
Our information is gathered from the product manufacturers, and
thus is only as accurate as the information to which we have access.
As a result we cannot guarantee that the information provided by this site is
100% accurate. Additionally, manufacturers frequently change their recipes,
processes and procedures, such that information may become
inaccurate over time. We do, however, try to update all of the
information frequently to ensure that it is as accurate as possible. You MUST MUST MUST check the product packaging before consuming a type or brand of food that you have not previously eaten.
Where does CanYouEatIt get its product information from?
The information on this site is gathered from manufacturers' websites, speaking with the companies themselves, and the information on the product packages.
Has the information on this site been reviewed by a doctor?
No, none of the information on this website has been reviewed
by a medical professional.

What is the CanYouEatIt take on the gluten content in oats?
We at CanYouEatIt recognize the controversy relating to the presence of gluten in oats, so we label all products that contain oats as containing gluten. Thus, products that contain oats will not be included in your search for products that are free of gluten.
Why do you have toothpaste on CanYouEatIt?
Some toothpastes contain allergens, most commonly milk proteins, so we wanted to include a few brands and products that to our knowledge do not contain these allergens. Because toothpaste companies are not subject to the same labeling requirements as food manufacturers, we personally ask all toothpaste manufacturers about the presence of the top eight allergens prior to including the brand on the site.
What about the rest of the food allergies?
We are very aware that there are many food allergies beyond the 'Big Eight', and in time we hope to address all of them on the site. We add information as quickly as we can, but in the meantime, please
let us know what allergies you or your loved ones have, so we know where to focus next.
What about products made on equipment or in a facility that also processes an allergen?
Currently, we exclude products labeled as being made on shared equipment or in a facility that also processes the allergen(s) that you have selected. However, in the near future, we will begin including these products in your search results with an identifier to show that they are either made on shared equipment or in a shared facility.
What about nut allergies and flax seeds, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds?
We do not exclude products containing flax seeds, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, or any derivative thereof from our list of nut-free products.
